Scoil Naomh Bárra Scoil Naomh Bárra, Wilkinstown is a co-educational Roman Catholic Primary School under the patronage of Dr. Michael Smith, Bishop of Meath. The school, situated 11km from Navan on the Navan – Kingscourt Road, opened on the 20th of September 1971 with the amalgamation of Kilbarry and Wilkinstown National Schools. It was then a three teacher school with an enrolment of 82 pupils. The new school was built in Wilkinstown and was named after Barra, a saint who had a Cill – (little Church) in Kilbarry. The principal was Mr. Tom Sherlock. Mrs. Marie Duffy (assistant) former principal of Kilbarry and Antoinette Stack (assistant) were the other staff members. In 1976 Fidelma O’Neill and Nuala Tallon (nee Darcy) joined the staff. The current enrolment is 161 pupils with 6 mainstream class teachers, a learning support teacher and a resource teacher, 3 special needs assistants and a school secretary under the stewardship of Mr. Michael Forry, Príomh Oide. While the ethos of Scoil Naomh Bárra is Catholic; we welcome pupils of all denominations. Creating an inclusive environment is of paramount importance. We endeavour to foster the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of all the pupils entrusted to our care. We appreciate enormously our wider school community and in particular the outstanding support of parents, Parents Association members and the Board of Management. We have an enthusiastic, dedicated and multi-talented team who share their expertise in all curricular areas. In Scoil Naomh Bárra we value the uniqueness and talents of every child.
